Stand Up Paddling at an Altitude of 16,000 ft.

As I sit down to write a blog post for Cinthol's "Relish the Challenge" campaign for third week in a row, I see myself in the middle of nowhere and part of an unique expedition which has set a world record.

Exactly, two months ago I met April Zilg a friend of mine in a tiny cafe deep down in Kovalam, Kerala. We discussed about a possible Stand Up Paddle expedition in higher altitudes of Himalayas. The idea sounded somewhat offbeat and very challenging to me, since no one else have ever stand up paddled beyond 6,000 ft altitude, where as our expedition would actually begin at 12,000 ft and go beyond.

Nick Surfing With Bethany Hamilton.

Nick Vujicic wasn't as fortunate as most of us when he was born, without any medical reasons he was born with neither legs nor arms. His life wasn't normal and everyday of Nick's life was challenging for him to do some of the simplest things in life. His early days as an young kid was horrific, he was constantly bullied at school and he suffered from severe depression. Later, he even attempted suicide at the age of 10 by trying to drown himself in a bathtub. But then the love for his parents prevented him and he believed that the God had a plan for him. Later, Vujicic realised that he was not alone in his fight and there are many who are struggling just like him and decided to embrace life and help others.

Kiteboarding - Alive is Awesome

Kiteboarding as taken India by storm. It's an exhilarating extreme water sport combining many other forms like wakeboarding, windsurfing, paragliding and gymnastics into one extreme sport. A kitesurfer uses his different sized kites accordingly to harness the power of wind on a small surfboard to be propelled across the water at mind blowing speeds depending on the wind conditions. Can you visualise jumping 30 foot straight off of flat water with no ramp or kicker ? Ski or Snowboard ? and then pulling off all wakeboarding moves with one large kite and no boat

Cinthol - Relish the ChallengeThere's no stylist fixing the model's hair, there is no blown lights, no heckling by the models and definitely I am not in the comfort of well equipped studios. It's just me, surfers, waves and water all around me. But there are fiberglass boards rocketing towards me at an incredible speed, the waves are constantly rolling by. Depending on the size it could be pretty intimidating at times. Well of course, I can't ignore some incredible creatures like shark, jelly fish and reefs around me and worry about getting myself shredded by them.

Taking Pride.

Cinthol - Relish the ChallengeThere is a Ladakhi saying that "The Land is so barren and passes are so high that only our worst enemies or best friends would want to visit us". Ladakh had always been on my mind ever since I heard stories and saw pictures from this Himalayan region which has some of the world's most breath taking & awe-inspiring landscapes with vicious roads to navigate through some of the highest motorable passes in the world. Plainly speaking, it is one of the most relishing challenges for a biker to ever come across.

Cinthol - Alive is Awesome

Heading into the last week of blogging for “Alive is Awesome” campaign, I thought of taking a break from my regular chores and I headed straight to our surf club, which is located on the coastal region of Karnataka. I was hoping to catch some surf, get tanned and have some fun with my buddies. But luck wasn't on my side as far as the surf was concerned. Nevertheless ocean and rivers can be the biggest playgrounds if you are adventurous and willing to go an extra mile for some pure fun and action.

Cinthol - Alive is Awesome"I took off on a wave, went down the side, popped out the other end, and went, s***, I'm still ALIVE !!" - Greg Noll (on surfing Waimea Bay for the first time, 1957) There's no greater feeling than surfing and the feeling of being part of the ocean, riding a crafted board. The freedom, joy, adventure and creativity all rolled into one. The power of the wave pushing you combined with movement across, up and down the face, as you gain speed. That is the most thrilling aspect.

I have heard a lot about Mexico since I was young. Mexico’s uncouth natural beauty, its people, the food and the culture have always fascinated me. I was very anxious to travel to this land of eagles and snakes. The fact that I have many Mexican friends, made it sweeter and I was eagerly waiting for some real adventure.

Huasteca is one place in central Mexico surrounded by lush Sierra Madre mountains and some of the most pristine rivers in the world flowing through it's stretches. I saw some adventure here when on a project for about a couple of months.

St Mary's Island from a distance.

Cinthol - Alive is Awesome

Coconut Island, popularly known as St Mary's Island, is a tiny strip of land in the Arabian sea, off the coast of Malpe, Karnataka. This island was formed by sub-aerial, sub-volcanic activity, and apparently was once a part of Madagascar before it drifted away some millions of years ago. The island is full of crystallized basalt rock - a unique geological formation of hexagonal shape.

And who named the Island St.Mary's? Well, according to a local legend, in the year 1498, Vasco da Gama landed at St.Mary's Island, fixed a cross and named the island - O Padara de Santa Maria as a dedication to St.Mary, before he proceeded to Calicut.

Cinthol - Alive is AwesomeAbout 250 miles off the Malabar Coast of India, lies chain of Islands called Lakshadweep, literally meaning " A hundred thousand islands". However, it consists of only 36 islands and only 10 are inhabited by natives today. These islands are virtually untouched by modern civilization, and therefore can easily be classified as one of the last few unspoiled destinations left on the planet.

These islands boast of turquoise hued clear waters, warm seas, white sands and an extended canopy of palms. Sparkling coral reefs glittering through the pellucid waters are home to varieties of life forms. Amidst all these spectacular setup, Lakshadweep has an amazing number of giant turtles that are centuries old.
